Challenger.. other stuff since build
Added Michael Harrison's "Wheel Deal" from Skyes the limit. This consists of fiberglass landing gear, hydraulic brakes, and larger wheels. I mainly just wanted larger wheels and the brakes, although the ride on the landing gear is wonderful!
Rigged up a heater system that mounts under the engine where the hot air escapes. I already have the ducting installed.. It was just a matter of making something to catch the heat Pics: heater1, heater2, heater3, heater4, heater5.
Made the rear stick removable. Mounted a stick holder to the top of the root tube. My passengers were getting younger and younger, so I wanted a way that I could remove the back stick ( I also began to question some adults I was flying with!). Pics: stick1, stick2, stick3.
Time for my Rotax 150 hour decarb. I am kinda cheap. It was hard for me to swallow the price they wanted for a decarb. I researched the process and found a great resource to decarb the engine myself. Click here for my decarb pics.
I never really got the RPM that I thought I should have using the TPI prop. I bought a Warp Drive 2 blade ground adjustable prop from Don Zank of Zanklites. I am now getting 6,000 RPM on my single carb Rotax...(actually I can get whatever I want to depending on how I adjust the prop). Have not decided if it was worth it or not. Pic: warpdrive1.
I have limited room for equipment in my Challenger. The GPS has moved around all over the cockpit because of either mounting issues, or the inability for me to see it from a distance... down lower in the cockpit. A guy from the Challenger E-mail list used a cell phone carrier for a mount. I tried it, and it works like a charm! Pics: gpsholder1, gpsholder2.
I live and fly near an Air Force base. One time I was head-to-head with a KC-135 tanker. He was flying very very low. For safety reasons, I added lights under my nose cone. People say from a distance it seems like a lot larger aircraft is coming at you, especially at night! Pic: lights1, lights2.
Changed from exhaust springs, to the nut and bolt clamps. My original thoughts were that the clamps would be easier to take on & off (for lubing the joints with anti-seize). If anything, I feel they are harder to take on &off! Pic: exhaustclamps1.
I have used everything to hold my tail up when plane is not in use. Recently, I made this stand out of PVC. It works alright if you are not rough with it. Pic: tailholder1.
