Elevator
First we measured the cut-out lines for the left & right elevator halfs. The skins are 38" each from the formed aluminum kit, but the plans show 37" as the overall length per half. Make sure you take off an additional inch when making your cut-out lines. After we made our lines, dad placed the elevator control horn on the skins (without the ribs) to see if our lines matched the 20 deg angle it is suppose to have. Well... it did not. After triple checking everything, we found that the control horn is off by 1/8" per plans. We ended up waiting to cut the skins until after we put the ribs on the control horn to find out exactly what angle we need our inboard cut lines.
We finally found that the horn will work, we will just need to "fine-tune" the edges with a file to make it look good. We ended up making our cuts from the original cut lines. Here, we clamped a rib inboard of our cut, to give the piece rigidity, while cutting it out on the bandsaw. After these cuts we stopped for the night. Tomorrow is my first father's day!!
