Main Spars
Finally back at it! Had a little break during the Thanksgiving Holidays. I tell you what, it really did not take much of a break before my motivation started to slow down... Forced myself back out in the shop, and I am glad I did! Felt really good going out there and accomplishing so much (at least to me). This Spar is really coming together faster than the first. Well.. enough jabbering on... LET'S WORK!!

This is the piece that will be countersunk. Marking all the holes "flush," or "not-flush." Not all holes will be flush, so reading the plans carefully is a MUST!

After figuaring out which holes are flush, we "test" countersunk a few holes to get the right depth / hole diameter. We used 8.19mm on the last spar; this time we deciced to live on the edge and try 8.20mm. Notice how the rivet sits down in the hole, allowing room for the top skin to fit in there.

Everything countersunk except the Spar Caps. We used the Micro-Stop Countersinking tool for this job (click here for a refresher in case you forgot what that is). Something to be aware of.... Watch out for chip particles riding up in the Micro-Stop after countersinking a few holes. The chips prevent the Countersink from seating all the way down to where you adjusted it. Causing your holes depth to come out too shallow.
